Composed of professionals across various fields of agave history, production, tasting and natural sciences, the Agave Spirits Institute (ASI) is the first and only accredited institution dedicated to the instruction, study and stewardship of all agave spirits.
Our mission at the Agave Spirits Institute is to educate professionals and amateurs alike in the history, tradition, and sensory tasting of agave spirits, allowing them to serve as ambassadors of spirits with centuries of history.
As sommeliers and microbiologists, master distillers and historians, we recognize that the rapid growth of agave products has far-reaching economic, social, political and economic implications.
Our goal is to ensure that industry professionals and consumers alike are armed with the education necessary to make informed decisions regarding agave spirits, whether it is representing a brand or simply choosing a bottle from a shelf.
ASI’s study program is divided into five courses: one introductory course and four levels of certification. Upon completion of all four levels of certification, students earn the title of Master of Agave Spirits. A fifth certification level is available for individuals interested in becoming educators and earning the certification necessary to impart lessons on agave spirits at the professional level.
